How We Dress for Success
At Smoke Rise Prep we believe that every child is unique. We also believe our community is extraordinary. As we venture together on this road to a better education for our children we believe showing school pride is just one of the bonuses to our wonderful collection of school uniform shirts.
Students of Smoke Rise Prep are required to wear either one of the shirts provided by our vendor or a shirt that mimics the look by purchasing shirts based on our colors elsewhere and having them embroidered with our school logo. The color choices for polo shirts are white, gray, black, and royal blue. Spring green is also allowed, although it is not able to be offered by our vendor at this time. The students also have several t-shirt choices including the oval logo tee, the tie dye tee, and the long sleeved tee.
We will have 2 shirts that will be required for each student, one t-shirt and one polo shirt. These are the shirts the students will be asked to wear for special events, field trips, programs, etc. All students should have a black polo embroidered with our logo and a green t-shirt with the oval logo on it.
Bottoms must be one or a combination of the following colors: black, white, gray, khaki, and denim. Spring green can also be used as an accent color.
The rest of the dress code is simple. The children are allowed to express their individuality in their pants, shirts, skirts, shoes, etc. by following a few basic criteria.
1. Be clean and neat.
2. No shorts, skirts, or dresses shorter than mid thigh and no pants or shorts that hang low.
3. Closed toe shoes only, no sandals, flip flops, or crocs.
4. All undergarments should be hidden from view.
5. Dress which contains vulgar or offensive words or symbols or dress which reflects a lack of sensitivity or respect for others is unacceptable.
Volunteer Policy
In order to keep our membership fees to a minimum, each family is expected to volunteer in some capacity for 10 hours each month. Families are asked to sign up for their monthly hours by the first of each month using Volunteer Spot, an online scheduling resource. This deadline provides our Volunteer Coordinator with sufficient time to fill any vacancies in our volunteer calendar.
Occasionally, circumstances may require a scheduling change for volunteer shifts after the first of the month. When this situation arises, we ask that volunteers call at least 3 other families to attempt to cover their shift. If this effort does not yield a replacement, the Volunteer Coordinator should be contacted to find a replacement and to schedule make-up hours.
If volunteers are unable to work a shift due to illness or some other unexpected circumstance, the Volunteer Coordinator should be contacted as quickly as possible, so a replacement can be found or a substitute may be called in.
When volunteers do not show up for a scheduled shift without prior notice, our teachers are left in a bind. The students' quality of education suffers, and there is a risk of leaving children without sufficient supervision. Due to the severity of this situation, there will be a $50 dollar fine for each incident, and volunteers will also be required to make up the missed hours.
Volunteers may choose to buy out some or all of their 10 hours. The fee to buy out hours is $25 per hour. This is to cover a teacher, parapro, or sub to cover the schedule.
The staff at SRP is understands that not every family works the same way. If a family has a hard time finding ways to fulfill their volunteer hours and cannot buy them out, communication is the key. The Volunteer Coordinator and the Director will be glad help families find alternate ways to support SRP.
Our 2011-2012 Volunteer Coordinator is Andrea Smith.
Absenteeism and Illness
For the protection of your child and other children, please do not send your child to school if he/she is ill or has had fever, diarrhea or vomiting within the past 24 hours. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, you child should not come to school if any of the following exists:
· Fever
· Vomiting
· Diarrhea
· Any symptom of childhood disease
· Cold virus
· Sore throat
· Croup
· Any unexplained rash
· Any skin infection
· Pink eye or other eye infection
Please email your teacher and the director when your child is absent for more than 2 consecutive days. Children who appear ill during the school day will be isolated and the parents called.
If your child contracts a communicable disease, please let the teacher or Director know immediately so we may alert other parents to take preventative care. Following any type of contagious illness, please follow the guidelines provided by your pediatrician and/or the CDC BEFORE returning your child to school.
Medication WILL NOT be dispensed by staff members or volunteers. The only exceptions to this rule include an asthma inhaler and/or an EpiPen if you have spoken directly with the Director and your child’s teacher. If your child requires medications due to illness, you may be advised to school him/her at home during that time period.
If your child has an emergency at school in which they become sick or injured, we will call you at work or home immediately. All phone numbers of parents are kept on file for such emergencies. If we cannot get in touch with parents or guardians, we will call the emergency contact person. If medical care is immediately required, we will call 911. Please remember to constantly update your phone numbers and emergency contact phone numbers.
