Q: What are your hours of operation?
A: We will be open from 9:00am - 2:30pm. (Our hours for 2012-2013 will be 8:30-2:30)
Q: Is this a homeschooling co-op?
A: No. We do not follow any laws or regulations pertaining to homeschooling. All of our students are public Georgia charter school students. Additionally, parents do not serve as their child's learning coach, as is common for Georgia Cyber Academy students. Our students are guided by paid professional, certified teachers. We do have similarities to a homeschooling co-op in that parents are individually responsible for our children's education, and we pool our resources together to create a community learning center.
Q: Is Smoke Rise Prep a Private School?
A: No. We are not a private school nor do we charge tuition.
Q: No tuition? Surely this isn't free?
A: Unfortunately, no... it isn't free, but we do operate as a non-profit corporation. We currently charge a $250 per month per child membership fee to cover our basic costs. We also require a $250 nonrefundable deposit to secure your spot. (Tuition will go up to $350 per month in 2012-2013)
Q: Is there a fee for textbooks and other instructional materials?
A: No. Georgia Cyber Academy provides all the textbooks and instructional materials that are
needed to complete the program. These books and materials are sent to
students directly and are paid for by your tax dollars.
Q: Do Smoke Rise Prep students wear uniforms?
A: Yes, please see the Policies and Procedures tab for our Dress for Success guidelines.
Q: Will you take field trips? What is the cost for field trips?
A: Yes. Georgia Cyber Academy offers many field trips. We will decide which of these will fit into our lessons and will appeal to our children. We are excited about the number of possibilities offered to us by GCA!
Q: Can our family go on vacation and allow our child(ren) to work remotely?
A: Yes (as long as there is an internet connection)! Each student's education is the responsibility of their parents. If you go on vacation, your child can work from a remote location at any time of the day or evening. You do, however, have to log in and record your attendance to GCA each day. Failure to log attendance will result in an unexcused absence.
